When ‘Sam’ and I met four years ago, we made tentative plans to hike the Appalachian Trail after graduation. His schedule is clear enough until he starts work in August, but because of my recent life changes I’ll be starting Basic Police Academy Training in July. Which is good, because I’m really anxious to get this process started. So, we recently came up with a compromise.
Originally we were going to do a thru-hike, but we obviously don’t have that kind of time so we’ve settled on doing a couple section hikes and eventually we’d like to try to hike the whole thing. We’ll be on the trail for about a month, starting in Northern Virginia and seeing how far we can get.
I also won’t have to train for Tough Mudder or the academy. Hiking mountains with 40 lbs of gear on my back while trying to adjust to the elevation changes will be more than enough of a cardio/strength training workout. And unlike running/lifting, I’ve never considered hiking to be a workout. I’m really excited, we both are. I haven’t seen him this giddy in a long time. He’s spent the last couple days researching and buying new gear.. I should probably get on that too haha. Oh and trail names. We need to figure out our trail names.
Kinda just wanted to give anyone who reads my stuff an update. We won’t be leaving until the end of may, but I realized that’s only a few weeks away, and we’ll be doing some climbing in Yosemite so I’m not sure when I’ll be home to post stuff.
